More Proof the Grammys Suck

As if we needed any further evidence that the Grammy Awards were stupid, pointless and utterly out of touch with modern music, the nominees for the 49th annual circus were announced today. I don’t really have comments either way on most of the stuff, but these two categories peaked my interest.

Best Rock Song

Snow Patrol – “Chasing Cars”
Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Dani California”
Neil Young – “Lookin’ For A Leader”
Bob Dylan – “Someday Baby”
The Killers – “When We Were Young”

Best Rock Album

John Mayer Trio – Try!
Tom Petty – Highway Companion
The Raconteurs – Broken Boy Soldiers
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stadium Arcadium
Neil Young – Living With War

Ok, how in God’s name did Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty manage their way onto these lists? I liked all three…like 30 years ago! What the hell? This appears to me to be another classic case of people on the nominating committees being out of step with today’s music. I won’t bother to recite off records that deserve to be ahead of the old fogies on the list, but this is so reminicent of artists like Jethro Tull winning the metal award and Steely Dan taking home a Grammy 25 years after they SHOULD have gotten one.

Enough with the make up awards. Just give the people you skipped all those years ago because those fogies were still too hung up on Frank Sinatra and Wayne Newton to recognize great modern music of the time and finally start acting current. You’re the freaking Grammy Awards, for Pete’s sake!
