Weekend Picks: Damn Fine Weekend Lineup of Shows

If you can’t find live music you want to see this weekend, you just aren’t trying. From national acts like Eric Johnson and the Ozzfest to blues, jazz and everything in between, this is a primo weekend to get yourself out and see some live music.

I am and here are my picks.

Friday

Eric Johnson and Adrian Belew
Verizon Wireless Theater

This is about as good as it gets for fusion geeks out there. Johnson is always great and Belew is a prog rock god.

Guy Forsyth (CD Release)
w/ Los Super Vatos
Continental Club

This is most likely where you’ll see me. Forsyth is outstanding and my friends in Los Super Vatos are a great opener.

Bo Jones
Southmore House

Nervewreck, Sonic Red, SkyBlue72
Helios – Downstairs

Carolyn Wonderland
w/ Funky Mustard
Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar

Trish Murphy
Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe, Galveston

Glenn Eliot
The Mezzanine Lounge

The Ruse
Baker Street Pub & Grill Willowbrook

Saturday

Ozzfest
Featuring Black Sabbath, Velvet Revolver, Rob Zombie, Shadows Fall, Black Label Society and more
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

If you aren’t deaf before you go, you probably will be afterward.

Ian Moore
w/ Permanent Daylight
Continental Club

Steve Hale
With Joe LoCascio, Sebastian Whittaker and David Craig
Cezanne

I don’t usually recommend jazz shows, but this is about as good as it gets here in Houston for local jazz.

The Sonnier Brothers
Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar

Southern Backtones, Black Tie Dynasty
Rudyard’s Pub & Grill

Tony Vega Band
The Big Easy Social and Pleasure Club

Goodtrain Sessions
Stag’s Head

Sunday

Rudyard’s 27th Anniversary
w/ The Riverboat Gamblers, Michael Haaga and the Plus Minus Show and The Wednesdays.
