Last weekend was a good weekend for music with the Houston Press Music Awards Showcase, but this one isn’t looking too shabby either.
Quite a few good national and regional acts in town tonight (hell, even Carole King is playing at Cynthia Wood Mitchell Pavillion!)but the locals are well represented all weekend.
Deep Ella, South FM
Solid modern alt.rock from Deep Ella
House of Moist, The Googe, Full Stride
Been meaning to see House of Moist for a while now.
Le Tigre, Lelectrelane, Origami
Some all-female alt.rockers in town on a tour.
The Engine Room
Hickman is a great singer-songwriter from Austin.
Patrice Pike w/Kenny Cordray
If my friend Stacey Steger were in town, she’d be at this one. Great singer-songwriter from austin along with a fine Houston guitarist.
My good friend Artie Villasenor and his cool Latin/rock side project.
Pale, Hardin Store Road, Sitka Sound, Svengali
Good solid alt.pop lineup featuring Pale.
Southern Backtones, Casey McPherson, Glenna Bell
This is like the all-Sugar Hill Studios recording projects night. Very good lineup.
The Watermarks, Dan Dyer, Bo Jones
Solid pop songwriter lineup at the soon-to-be-closing RR.
Watermelon Dance and Summer Social Featuring:
Clay Farmer, Plump, The Hightailers, Mikado, DRUM, Drop Trio, Sean Reefer & the Resin Valley Boys, Blendt and Los Rancheros
How can you miss the Watermelon Fest? Go early if you want to find parking.
Last Concert Cafe
Polished pop songwriting from Austin’s own.
