In my efforts to both make myself seem cooler and decrease my workload (overblown hype and laziness, double score!), I’ve decided to go about the process of converting this blog to WordPress.
When I installed this guy last year, it served its purpose well, but I learned a valuable lesson: with technology, start with the most popular and move to the least. Going in the opposite direction makes changes later, how shall we say, a pain in the ass.
I’m working on finding a quality conversion/importer for my SimplePHPBlog to WordPress. Unfortunately, I’ve only found two ways to do it – import using RSS, which doesn’t include comments AND appears to not work when you have as many blog posts as I have OR a converter I found through Google that is supposed to manage this trick, but doesn’t seem to work for me for some unknown reason.
The author of the code has yet to respond and resides in Beligium, not that I think the two are related or that people in that lovely country are inherently unreliable. Since I don’t know any Belginnians Belgainians Belgites people from Beligum, I’m assuing he’s a really nice, really busy guy, who very likely enjoys waffles as much as I do, maybe more.
Anyway, if any of you PHP wizzes out there wants to take a crack at migrating a flat-file non-db-driven blog to WordPress, keeping the comments intact, let me know. Also, if any PHP expert knows a way to code the site so that folks coming to old links are re-directed to the new version, even better. I’m not holding out much hope for that last one, but a man can dream, can’t he? Well, can’t I???
