Sara Cress of the Chronicle music blog, Handstamp, sent out requests yesterday for songs that you think of when you think of Halloween and I responded, being the nerd that I am. She ran it today in her Halloween blog post. Here was my response if you, like me, are often too lazy to click the link:
For me, there is no more brilliantly creepy song than Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath. Not only [sic] does is it sound sinister (slow, dark and freaky), but the lyrics are about as spooky as you can possibly get:
Satan sitting there he’s smiling,
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh, No, No please God help me!Leave it to a guy who bit the heads off of bats to know how to scare the beejeezus out of people. You can say death metal or goth is scary, but I’ll take the original. I’ll take Ozzy.
Yes, I know that my post below calls Ali Lohan’s Christmas disgrace the scariest thing this Halloween. It is. Let’s just call Black Sabbath more traditionally creepy. And stop questioning me. I’m getting a complex.
