Paul Anka, for the un-educated and ever-so-young, was a pop singer who had hits in the 50’s and 60’s with songs like “Diana” and “Put Your Head on My Shoulder.” He was a crooner in an era when rock and roll began. He’s cheesy, basically. Well, he’s got a new record out.
Rock Swings is the new CD from Anka and, man, is it groovy daddio. Ok, I’m mixing my cultural slangs. Whatever.
This baby is choc full o’ hits, but not the kind you might expect from Anka. No, on this one, he channels rockers like Oasis, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Nirvana, Soundgarden and The Cure. Oh, yes, it is truly awesome.
He does this all under the guise of swing music. It is truly a sound to behold.
You know, Herbie Hancock did this a few years back with his album “New Standard.” But, the difference was Hancock is a jazz legend and Anka, well, he’s not. Enjoy!
